Challenge: Designing a welcoming interface for a tenant-landlord matching platform
Solution: A user-friendly, warm design that fosters trust and positive interactions
Overview
WhoLive is a website and app designed to help landlords and tenants connect while avoiding negative rental experiences. This platform provides a space where both parties can review and select each other based on prior experiences, helping to build trust and transparency. Our role was to create a warm, inviting design that would make users feel comfortable navigating the platform, promoting positive interactions and fostering trust in the matching process.
Challenges
- Welcoming Design for Diverse Users: Creating an interface that feels approachable and inclusive for both landlords and tenants, who may have different goals and expectations.
- Building Trust through Design: Since WhoLive’s value lies in its ability to foster trustworthy connections, the design needed to convey transparency, reliability, and security.
- Seamless User Experience: Ensuring ease of navigation so users can effortlessly find and use key features, such as profile browsing, messaging, and review sharing.
Solution
To address these challenges, we focused on a warm and intuitive design approach:
- Soft Color Palette and Friendly Visuals: We selected a soft, calming color scheme and used inviting imagery to create a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. This visual warmth helps users feel welcomed and encourages them to spend more time exploring the platform.
- Clear, Trust-Centric Layout: Key features such as user profiles, review sections, and messaging were designed to be easily accessible, with prominent placement and clean layouts. User reviews and verification badges were given special attention to emphasize credibility and foster trust.
- Enhanced User Experience:
- Simple Navigation: We simplified navigation to ensure that users of all ages and tech abilities could easily find relevant information. By reducing clutter and using clear icons, users can intuitively access search filters, view listings, and read reviews.
- Friendly Copywriting: In addition to visual design, we used conversational, friendly language throughout the platform to make instructions and feature descriptions feel approachable and supportive.
Results
The final design for WhoLive successfully balances functionality with a warm, welcoming aesthetic. This friendly, easy-to-navigate interface encourages landlords and tenants alike to interact positively, improving user satisfaction and trust on the platform. Feedback has shown that users appreciate the calming design and straightforward navigation, which contribute to WhoLive’s reputation as a secure, community-focused rental platform.
This case study highlights the importance of trust-driven design in online matching platforms and demonstrates how thoughtful, user-centered design can enhance the user experience while fostering a positive, safe community.
